Hyderabad police have arrested six people connected to a momos stall where a 31-year-old woman died and several others fell ill after eating the food.

The Banjara Hills police took action following a complaint from the family of the woman who passed away. The arrested stall owners are Almas (23), Sajid Hussain (20), Md Raees (23), Md Sharukh (29), Md Haneef (21), and Md Rajik (19). All of them live in Khairtabad and are originally from Kishanganj District, Bihar.

The incident occurred on October 25 when Reshma Begum, a resident of Singadi Basthi, and her daughter bought momos from the stall after visiting the weekly market. The next day, they began experiencing severe diarrhea. On October 27, foam started coming from Reshma’s mouth, and she was rushed to NIMS Hospital in Punjagutta. Unfortunately, the doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival at 9 a.m. Reshma’s two daughters, Rimsha and Rafia, along with several other people, were also hospitalized after eating from the same stall.

The family of the deceased accused the stall owners, including Sajid Hussain and Shahrukh, of adulterating the momos, which they believe caused the health issues and death.

After the complaint, officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted an inspection of the food stall. They found that the momos were being prepared in unsanitary conditions and that the stall was operating without a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license.

Food samples from the stall were collected and sent to the State Food Laboratory for analysis. The authorities have also ordered the stall to stop its business operations.
