The Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) arrested and deported a foreign national named Ikeji Innocent Nduka, a 53-year-old from Nigeria. Nduka was caught in Panjagutta, Hyderabad, after authorities found out that he had been living in India illegally. His passport and visa had expired, and he was involved in illegal activities in the city.

Nduka first came to India in 2009 on a tourist visa. He initially worked in the scarf trade in Mumbai. Afterward, he moved to Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, where he sold T-shirts for four years before relocating to Bangalore. In May 2024, he traveled to Hyderabad, where he intended to engage in unlawful activities. Investigations revealed that Nduka had been using fake documents to hide his true identity. This allowed him to avoid legal trouble and plan an escape from India if needed.

After this discovery, the Hyderabad Police worked with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). They obtained a Movement Restriction Order and placed Nduka in a detention center in Hyderabad. The Nigerian High Commission in New Delhi provided an Emergency Travel Document, which allowed Nduka to be safely deported to Nigeria. On September 7, 2024, he was sent back to Nigeria via Chhatrapati Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing urged the public to stay alert. They mentioned that more foreign nationals are coming to India on different types of visas—such as medical, student, or business visas—and staying illegally. These individuals are contributing to the growing problem of drug abuse. H-NEW also encouraged parents to monitor their children’s activities and work together to keep Hyderabad drug-free.

Citizens were asked to report any drug-related activities to H-NEW by calling 8712661601. The successful operation to catch Nduka was carried out by a team of dedicated officers, including Inspectors K. Srinivas and G.S. Daniel, Sub-Inspector Venkat Ramulu, and other H-NEW staff members.
