The police had been monitoring the transportation of ganja and made the arrests based on intelligence gathered. The ganja seizure happened in Bhavani Nagar PS, where three accused were detained. The main accused, Sheikh Parvez, has a history of illegal drug activities and is from Asifnagar in Hyderabad.

Sheikh Parvez had previously been arrested in an NDPS case in Ravulapalem and is currently in Rajahmundry Jail. After his release in April, he worked with a ganja farmer named Deepak from Kalimela area in Odisha to smuggle ganja into Hyderabad for profit. Deepak would transport the ganja in RTC buses to Hyderabad, where Sheikh Farwaz would receive it.
