Hyderabad Police Arrest Ganja Peddler, Seize 200 kg of Drugs
The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, along with the Chandrayangutta police, arrested an inter-state ganja peddler, Jadhav Shivaram, from Sangareddy. The 34-year-old was previously involved in two criminal cases, including one under the NDPS Act. During the arrest, police seized 200 kg of ganja worth ₹50 lakh from him.
On February 6, based on a tip-off, the Task Force team and Chandrayangutta police stopped a car at the Chandrayangutta flyover and caught Shivaram. Two other suspects, Subash from Odisha and peddler Banavath Jaipal, are currently on the run. During questioning, Shivaram admitted that he had been transporting ganja from Sileru, Vizag, and Odisha to Maharashtra since 2015. He and his associate, Jaipal, regularly bought ganja from Subash and sold it to customers at higher prices.
According to Patil Kantilal Subhash, DCP, South-East Zone, the accused planned to buy 200 kg of ganja and sell it in Hyderabad for a profit. Three days before his arrest, Shivaram traveled to Odisha in a car and purchased the ganja at ₹4,000 per kg from Subash. On Wednesday, he left Odisha and arrived in Shamshabad to meet Jaipal and discuss selling the ganja in Hyderabad for ₹8,000 per kg. He instructed Jaipal to wait near LB Nagar to hand over the drugs to buyers.
At around 7 pm, Shivaram left Shamshabad in his car, heading toward LB Nagar. However, at about 8:30 pm, as he was passing through the Chandrayangutta area, the police intercepted his vehicle and arrested him. The police also seized the ganja hidden inside his car.
The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to catch the other suspects involved in the drug trade.
