Heavy rains and thunderstorms hit Hyderabad on Wednesday, causing traffic to come to a halt and even ambulances struggled to move. The streets were flooded with rainwater and potholes turned into muddy patches, leading to massive traffic jams. In the midst of all this, a baby crocodile was found in Khairtabad Chintal Basti nala, although it is unclear how it got there. Forest officials later arrived and took the crocodile away.

The Meteorological Department issued a yellow warning until September 30. Many areas in the city experienced waterlogging, with dirty water flowing from manholes and nalas overflowing. Mehdipatnam, Rajendranagar, Attapur, Kondapur, Khairtabad, Banjara Hills, Nampally, Begumpet, Madhapur, Hitech City, Alwal, Malkajgiri, and parts of the Old City received heavy rainfall and also suffered from waterlogging.

Motorists faced a difficult time due to the extensive traffic jams. It took over two hours to clear the traffic in some areas. The worst affected areas included Madhapur – Hitech City, Tolichowki – Shaikpet, Kukatpally, and below the PVNR expressway. Other areas like Begumpet, Secunderabad, Tarnaka, Somajiguda, Banjara Hills, and Khairtabad also experienced traffic issues. Basements of residential apartments were flooded, and efforts were made to pump out the water. In preparation for the Ganesh Immersion on Thursday, the police advised the public to avoid unnecessary outings and asked organizers and participants to plan their processions based on weather updates.

City Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi instructed officials and monsoon emergency teams to remain vigilant. People on social media expressed their grievances and urged others to avoid manholes. One person cautioned that falling into a manhole could lead directly to the Musi River, while another shared their experience of walking faster than a bus stuck in traffic.
