In Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has decided to deliver water tankers at night due to a high demand for them. This decision was made during a meeting on Friday, where officials reviewed the summer activities of the Water Board. The demand for water tankers increased in February because of the depletion of underground water, especially in four divisions of the city.
M Danakishore, the Chief Secretary of the Municipal and Urban Development Department, stated that there are no issues with the water supply, but the demand for tankers is particularly high in certain areas. To address this demand, preparations are being made to provide an additional 12 MGD of water by April. Authorities have instructed to distribute water via tankers even during nighttime to meet the demand.
Special shift officers will be assigned to oversee nighttime tanker distribution and monitor supply and demand from customers. The Water Board also plans to appoint a nodal officer to each division to oversee summer activities and ensure uninterrupted water supply during the Ramzan season to mosques and surrounding areas. Over 580 tankers under the HMWSSB provide water to residents in two shifts from 6 am to 10 pm.
Overall, with the increase in demand for water tankers, HMWSSB has taken steps to address the issue by providing water deliveries at night and increasing water supply to meet the needs of residents.
