Hyderabad: The health department has issued an advisory for the citizens of Telangana following the forecast of light to moderate rains or thunderstorms by IMD-Hyderabad. They are advised not to eat outside food, follow dry days on Fridays every week, and take precautions during the monsoon.

Health officials warned that while the rain may bring relief from the heat, it can also lead to various viral infections and diseases spread by mosquitoes, food, and water. To stay healthy during the rainy season, here are some tips to keep in mind.

The Director of Public Health, Dr B Ravinder Nayak, urged citizens to take precautions such as securing doors and windows with mosquito nets, covering beds and cribs with mosquito nets, especially those treated with insecticides. Children should wear light-colored clothes that cover their arms and legs. Using mosquito repellents like creams, lotions, roll-on sticks, and body sprays before going outside, especially during dawn and dusk, can be very helpful.

It is important to maintain drains to prevent water stagnation and cover septic tanks with mesh to prevent mosquito breeding. Following Friday dry days every week can help get rid of stagnant water in discarded containers like flower pots, cans, tires, buckets, coolers, ditches, and drains.

People are advised to avoid eating outside, especially raw or uncovered food sold in open places like chaat, salads, fruits, and juices. It is recommended to eat freshly made, home-cooked food and discard leftovers whenever possible. Avoid sharing food, water, or clothes with sick individuals, wash hands frequently, and use hand sanitizers to prevent infection.

To boost immunity, it is essential to get at least eight hours of sleep, drink three liters of water daily, and eat a healthy diet rich in fruits. If feeling unwell, it is best to rest at home for a speedy recovery and to prevent infecting others.
