The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner has announced a ban on gatherings of five or more people within the city limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This includes processions, rallies, and public meetings. The restrictions started at 6 pm on Sunday, October 27, and will last until 6 pm on November 28, 2024. These measures were taken to maintain peace and order after receiving intelligence reports about possible unrest.

As part of the order, people are also prohibited from displaying images, flags, placards, or sharing electronic messages that could disturb public peace. While public gatherings are restricted, peaceful protests are still allowed, but only at the designated Indira Park Dharna Chowk. Gatherings near sensitive areas like the Secretariat are strictly banned, and anyone breaking these rules could face legal consequences.

The order was issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. This law gives officials the power to take necessary actions to prevent any threats to public safety. There are some exceptions to the rule, such as funeral processions, military personnel on duty, and officials like police officers and education department squads who are performing their duties.

This new rule replaces similar restrictions that were previously enforced under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
