The South Zone ENT Surgeons’ Conference-2024 will take place in Hyderabad from October 18 to October 20. The theme of the conference is “Basics and Beyond,” and it will focus on the latest advancements in the field of ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat).

Dr. D S Deenadayal, the organizing chairman of AOI TG South Con 2024, spoke to the media and emphasized the importance of our five sense organs—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin. He noted that four of these (excluding the eyes) fall under ENT care. He explained that any problem with these organs can severely affect our quality of life.

Dr. Deenadayal also highlighted the rapid advancements in the field of ENT. He mentioned that technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) are set to revolutionize patient care. For example, doctors can now use a tiny 1.2 mm scope to look inside the salivary gland, which helps in the precise removal of stones and the treatment of diseases. He also stressed the importance of speech, which is a key part of ENT care, showing how broad the speciality is.

The event is the ninth Telangana and 19th South Zone ENT Surgeons’ Conference. It is organized by the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, South Zone (AOI SZ). More than 1,000 delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka are expected to attend.

The conference will offer a mix of workshops, keynote sessions, orations, and panel discussions. According to Dr. Deenadayal, the goal is to share knowledge and foster collaboration among ENT professionals. Attendees will learn about both traditional practices and new technological innovations, creating an excellent learning opportunity.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma will inaugurate the conference on Friday. Karunakar Reddy, the Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, will attend as the guest of honour.

Dr. N Venkatram Reddy, the organizing secretary, said that ENT specialists from the southern states will present the latest technologies, new procedures, and research on conditions ranging from common ENT issues to congenital deafness. For children with hearing loss, cochlear implants offer hope, and brainstem implants are now available for those who can’t use cochlear implants.

The conference will also introduce new treatments for snoring, such as nerve stimulation, and discuss advanced treatments for allergies. The focus will be on improving patient care while reducing costs.

Finally, Dr. D Dwarakanatha Reddy, the conference coordinator, noted that the event rotates annually among the southern states, and this is the second time Telangana is hosting it.
