Hyderabad hosted its first-ever Orthopaedic Walkathon on Sunday at Jalavihar. The event focused on strengthening the lower limbs for better physical fitness. It was flagged off by Minister for Transport and B.C. Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Special Chief Secretary (Information Technology), Jayesh Ranjan. The walkathon was organized by the Mumbai-based Moonot Healthcare Foundation (MHF).
The walkathon featured three different distance categories—three, five, and seven kilometers. Over 1,000 people of various ages participated. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the importance of walking to keep bones and joints strong. He noted that injuries due to weak bones are becoming common and encouraged people to include walking in their daily routines.
He also assured that the government would support such initiatives to raise awareness about bone and joint health.
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan spoke about his discussion with MHF founder Shilpa Moonot. He highlighted that taking care of foot and ankle health is essential for leading a pain-free life, especially in old age.
The event was organized by MHF in partnership with Hyderabad-based Samskriti Business Solutions. MHF founders, Shilpa and Pradeep Moonot, have previously conducted similar walkathons in Pune and Jodhpur. Dr. Pradeep Moonot, an orthopaedic surgeon with over ten years of experience in London, expressed MHF’s willingness to hold free medical camps in Telangana for underprivileged individuals suffering from foot and ankle issues, provided they receive government support.
The Orthopaedic Walkathon played an important role in encouraging people to focus on bone health and take preventive steps to avoid future problems.
