In Hyderabad, doctors and other healthcare professionals gathered at Indira Park on Sunday to protest against the tragic rape and murder of a medical student in Kolkata. The protesters, dressed in black as a symbol of their anguish, assembled at Dharna Chowk to show their solidarity with the victim.

The protest was organized by various medical associations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Telangana Public Health Doctors’ Association (TPHDA), the Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (T-JUDA), and the Telangana Teaching Doctors’ Association (TTGDA). These groups came together to demand justice and call for better safety measures for medical professionals.

Congress MP Dr. Kadiyam Kavya, who is also a doctor, attended the protest to support her fellow medical professionals. She expressed her commitment to bringing this issue to the attention of the government and promised to stand by medical students until justice is served. Similarly, BJP MP Eatala Rajender emphasized the need to protect doctors and healthcare workers, who provide essential services even in challenging conditions. He also criticized the government for not ensuring their safety and called for severe punishment for the accused in the case.

A large number of medical students from various colleges participated in the protest, led by the Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (T-JUDA). They warned that their protests would escalate if the government did not take immediate action. IMA State President Dr. Kali Prasad expressed deep concern that such horrific incidents could occur, highlighting the lack of security for women doctors and medical staff. He urged the government to implement a Central Protection Act to prevent similar tragedies in the future and pledged to support the legal fight of junior doctors.
