Hyderabad High Court Judge, Justice P Sam Koshy, highlighted the need to balance enforcement and facilitation in customs administration. He spoke as the chief guest at the International Customs Day-2025 event, organized by Hyderabad Customs on Saturday. International Customs Day was introduced by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) to acknowledge the hard work of customs officers. These officers play a crucial role in preventing illegal trade, protecting national economies, and ensuring smooth international transactions. Customs agencies also help regulate cross-border trade and maintain economic stability.
The event focused on key priorities for 2025. These include modernizing customs operations with digitalization and automation to speed up trade, enhancing security by tackling smuggling, drug trafficking, counterfeit goods, and money laundering, and ensuring fair revenue collection. Additionally, customs efforts support domestic industries and promote economic growth through international trade.
During the event, customs officials, trade associations, and government agencies reaffirmed their commitment to efficiency, security, and prosperity. With ongoing reforms and advanced technology in customs operations, India’s global trade position is expected to improve, strengthening its role in the international market.
