Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Seeks Support for Hyderabad Sewerage and Metro Projects
Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, met with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Monday to discuss key infrastructure projects for Hyderabad. He requested that Hyderabad’s Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP) be included under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme or considered as a special project.
Revanth Reddy explained that Hyderabad’s sewerage system is outdated and unable to meet the city’s current needs. He also pointed out that many nearby municipalities lack proper sewerage systems. To address this, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the CSMP, which covers Hyderabad and 27 surrounding municipalities. The plan spans 7,444 kilometers and is estimated to cost ₹17,212.69 crore. The Chief Minister handed over the DPR to Minister Khattar and requested financial assistance.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of wastewater treatment to maintain Hyderabad’s global living standards. He focused on the Musi River, which runs through Hyderabad for 55 kilometers and receives sewage from 110 kilometers of drains. To prevent further pollution, a separate DPR has been prepared for constructing trunk sewers, large box drains, and new sewage treatment plants at a cost of ₹4,000 crore. Revanth Reddy submitted this DPR to the Union Minister, seeking quick approval to start the project.
In addition to sewerage upgrades, the Chief Minister discussed the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2. He shared that DPRs have been completed for several metro corridors, including Nagole to Shamshabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (36.8 km), Raidurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MG Bus Station to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km), totaling 76.4 kilometers. The total estimated cost for this expansion is ₹24,269 crore.
Revanth Reddy proposed a partnership for the metro expansion project, hoping for a 50% contribution from the central government to advance these vital infrastructure developments.
