Hyderabad, also known as the City of Pearls, is home to unique rock formations that date back around 2,500 million years. These rocks are not only beautiful but also hold historical value. However, urbanization is threatening their existence.
Ashok Kumar Vootla, a rock art photographer from Hyderabad, is on a mission to conserve these rocks. He captures their beauty with his camera and aims to raise awareness about their importance and the need for preservation.
Vootla recently showcased his photographs at an exhibition at the Ameerpet metro station. The exhibition featured rocks from iconic locations in India and around the world, including the Grand Canyon and Stonehenge.
Vootla has traveled extensively to capture over 2000 images of rock formations. He believes that these rocks are not just ordinary boulders but have unique forms like humans, animals, and reptiles. Through his photography, he hopes to create awareness and preserve these rocks.
One of Vootla’s favorite rock formations is the “One Eyed Gentleman” that he discovered in Hyderabad. He finds joy in perceiving rocks in different forms and capturing their beauty.
Overall, Vootla’s work as a rock art photographer is a tribute to these rocks and a plea to save them from destruction.
