Hundreds of people in Hyderabad recently participated in a walk to raise awareness about Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). DVT is a serious medical condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins in the body, usually in the legs. If left untreated, DVT can lead to complications such as pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal.
The walk was organized by the Hyderabad chapter of the Indian Society for Vascular Surgery (ISVS), in partnership with several other organizations. The event aimed to educate people about the risk factors for DVT, as well as the symptoms and treatment options available.
According to Dr. Suresh Kumar, President of the Hyderabad chapter of ISVS, DVT is a growing concern in India. “Many people are not aware of the risk factors for DVT, such as prolonged sitting or immobility, obesity, pregnancy, and certain medical conditions,” he said. “By raising awareness about DVT, we hope to prevent more cases from occurring and ensure that those who do develop the condition receive timely and effective treatment.”
The walk began at KBR Park and covered a distance of 3 kilometers. Participants included doctors, nurses, patients, and members of the general public. Many wore blue ribbons to symbolize their support for DVT awareness.
During the walk, volunteers distributed information about DVT and answered questions from participants. They also emphasized the importance of staying active and taking regular breaks when sitting for extended periods of time.
At the end of the walk, Dr. Kumar thanked everyone for their participation and stressed the need for continued efforts to raise awareness about DVT. “We cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to this condition,” he said. “By working together, we can make a real difference in preventing DVT and ensuring that those who do develop it receive the best possible care.”
Overall, the walk was a success in terms of raising awareness about DVT. By educating people about the risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options for this condition, the organizers hope to prevent more cases from occurring and improve outcomes for those who are affected.
