Telangana Tops Human Trafficking Cases in India

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCB), Telangana has the highest number of human trafficking cases in the country. In 2022, there were 391 cases reported in Telangana out of a total of 2,250 cases nationwide.

The state police rescued a total of 704 people, including 25 girls, 9 Bangladeshi young women, 641 women, and 38 boys. Some of the victims were taken to rescue homes and reunited with their parents, while others were handed over to child protection authorities.

The NCB report reveals that more than 600 women and 100 children were smuggled to metro cities. Young women and minors are also being trafficked from other states, including Bangladesh and Nepal.

Anti-human trafficking teams are actively working in Telangana to combat this issue, but the number of cases continues to rise. Young women are being lured to the state with promises of jobs, employment, and love, only to be forced into prostitution.

Child labor trafficking is also a major concern, particularly from northern states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. To address this problem, 30 special teams are working in Telangana.

Under the name Operation Smile, the CID Police, Voluntary Organizations, Child Protection, and Local Police are conducting raids as per the guidelines set by the Centre.
