HS Prannoy, an Indian badminton player, won his first Malaysia Masters title and became the first Indian to do so. He beat China’s Weng Hong Yang in the men’s singles final with a score of 21-9, 13-21, 21-18. The 30-year-old player said that it was one of the biggest wins of his career. Prannoy showed composure and resolve during the 94-minute game against his Chinese opponent, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Championships.
Prannoy said that all the matches in the tournament were tough, but he was relieved to win the title. He will now prepare for the Singapore Open next week. He believes that this win will give him confidence for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, which will be held later this year. Prannoy thinks that playing in close, long matches gives players a different mentality and helps them belong in the top ten rankings and win big tournaments.
