A home guard named Ravinder attempted suicide by setting himself on fire to protest against the government’s refusal to recognize them as government employees. Unfortunately, Ravinder passed away after three days of treatment for his severe injuries. He died on Friday morning at DRDO Apollo due to his worsening health condition.
Three days ago, Ravinder set himself on fire with petrol in order to demand that the government make the home guards permanent employees. He was immediately taken to the hospital and received treatment, but the doctors confirmed that he had passed away. His body was then taken to Osmania Hospital, causing tension in the neighborhood.
Ravinder worked as a home guard in the local traffic PS in Chandrayanagutta, Hyderabad. He attempted suicide because he had not been paid his salary for two months and was facing financial difficulties.
Ravinder’s suicide attempt has sparked concern among the Telangana home guards. They are demanding that the government make them permanent employees and treat them equally with the police. The Home Guard Association JAC has called for a boycott of duties until September 16 as part of their protest.
Political parties are also supporting the home guards in their fight for permanent employment. Telangana BJP President and Union Minister Kishan Reddy visited Ravinder in the hospital on Thursday and expressed his anger towards Chief Minister KCR for not keeping his promise to the home guards and allowing labor exploitation to continue.
Kishan Reddy expressed his sorrow over Ravinder’s death and urged employees not to resort to suicide. He emphasized the need to fight for their rights instead. He criticized the state government, calling Ravinder’s death a result of their negligence.
