Dana Kishore, the Managing Director of HMWSSB, recently inspected the ongoing construction of the Mir Alam Tank sewage treatment plant (STP) in Hyderabad. The STP is being built with a capacity of 41.5 million liters per day (MLDs), and Kishore expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project.

Once the 31 STPs are completed, it is expected that the sewage problem in the city will be resolved. These new STPs will be equipped with advanced sequencing batch reactor technology, allowing for the treatment of 1,282 million liters of sewage daily.

Currently, 1,650 million gallons of sewage are generated every day in the GHMC area. Out of this, 772 million gallons are already being treated through 25 existing STPs. To address the remaining 878 million gallons of sewage, the state government has initiated the construction of 31 new STPs. The project, costing Rs 3,866.41 crore, aims to treat 100% of the daily sewage produced in Hyderabad.
