HMWSSB Reports 23% Decline in Sewerage-Related Complaints

Hyderabad: Complaints about sewage issues in the city have significantly decreased, according to a review meeting held on Tuesday. Officials announced that the number of complaints dropped by around 23 percent, thanks to a special 90-day drive by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). This initiative aims to make Hyderabad free from sewerage overflows.

As part of this effort, HMWSSB has completed de-silting work on 1,000 kilometers of sewerage pipelines across 8,000 areas. In addition, 80,000 manholes have been thoroughly cleaned during the drive, according to the officials.

The impact of these measures is clear from the data. In September, 12,105 complaints about sewer blockages at homes were reported, while in October, the number dropped to 9,697—a reduction of 2,408 complaints, or 20 percent fewer than the previous month. Similarly, there were 30,105 complaints about sewerage overflow in September, compared to 23,293 in October, marking a decrease of 6,812 complaints, or 23 percent fewer issues.

These improvements highlight the success of the special drive and the efforts made to address Hyderabad’s sewerage challenges effectively.
