The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is preparing comprehensive monsoon action plans before the rainy season. These plans are aimed at ensuring safe drinking water and efficient sewerage management for residents in the city.
During a recent review meeting, officials from the Hyderabad Water Board were directed to implement specific measures for drinking water supply and sewerage management. They were also instructed to provide necessary safety equipment and tools for field staff, along with machines for preventive maintenance of sewerage lines and silt cart vehicles.
As per Hyderabad Water Board officials, the monsoon action plan will soon be ready. A three-step chlorination process, similar to last year, will be used to prevent water contamination. Additional staff will be deployed for this purpose, with chlorination taking place at water treatment plants, main balancing reservoirs, and service reservoirs.
Despite depleted groundwater levels during the summer, the Water Board has managed to meet consumer needs. Around 30,000 customers in certain areas relied on water tankers, prompting the Water Board to increase the number of tankers from 584 on March 1 to 872 by May 17 through new purchases.
