Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Managing Director, Ashok Reddy, issued important instructions on Sunday due to the continuous heavy rains in the city. He directed senior officials to take all necessary precautionary steps and asked the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to stay alert.

Following this, Ashok Reddy, along with other senior officers, inspected several water-logged areas in the city, including Manikonda, Mehdipatnam, Bandlaguda, and Hanuman Nagar. They also visited the two major water reservoirs, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar. During the inspection, the officials were instructed to be on high alert to prevent sewage overflow issues, especially during the ongoing rains. Ashok Reddy emphasized that if any manholes overflow, the problem should be addressed immediately to avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

Additionally, he advised the officials to conduct regular field visits, paying special attention to areas prone to water logging. He also stressed the importance of conducting water quality tests in flooded areas. He further instructed that proper barricades should be set up around work areas and places where sewage overflow is a concern.

HMWSSB officials have urged the public not to open manholes under any circumstances. If there are any issues, residents can contact the Water Board Customer Care Centre at 155313 for assistance. Due to the Meteorological Department’s forecast of rain for the next two days, the vacations of water board employees and staff have been cancelled to ensure prompt response to any emergencies.
