Hyderabad: New Metro Train Sets to Arrive in 12 to 15 Months
It will take around 12 to 15 months for new three-coach metro train sets to join Hyderabad Metro Rail’s current fleet of 57 trains. This update was shared by KVB Reddy, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), during the 7th anniversary celebrations of Hyderabad Metro Rail at the Ameerpet interchange station. He mentioned that technical and financial negotiations with manufacturers like BEML and others are still ongoing.
KVB Reddy explained that efforts to acquire new train sets have been underway for the past one and a half years, despite facing financial challenges. He also revealed that discussions were held with the Nagpur and Pune Metros to address the issue. However, requests to borrow trains from Nagpur Metro did not work out because their passenger numbers increased after the launch of additional metro lines.
NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), emphasized the transformative impact of the metro system on the city. He stated that the Hyderabad Metro is more than just a transportation solution—it is a driving force for economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability. He pointed out that the metro has played a key role in reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Hyderabad’s residents.
