The Telangana High Court’s single bench of Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy dismissed a writ filed by students of Osmania University. The students wanted the OU police to register a FIR against CM A Revanth Reddy, but the court said they didn’t have the right to do so.
The petition was filed by Chatari Dasarath and five other students studying at the university. They claimed that the CM had shared a fake notice on his official Twitter account. The notice, supposedly from the OU Chief Warden, said the hostels were closing due to water and power shortages.
The students’ lawyer, Mamidi Roopender, argued that the CM’s tweet contained misleading information. The original circular only mentioned summer vacation, not closure due to shortages. The court heard both sides and ultimately rejected the petition.
Justice Reddy ruled that since the OU police had already started investigating the issue, the students didn’t have the standing to file a petition.
