The heavy rains over the past two days have caused the Godavari river to rise slightly, with the current water level at 24 feet at Bhadrachalam. This situation is concerning as the river is nearing its capacity and may rise further. To manage this, 25,000 cusecs of water was released from the Kinnerasani project into the Godavari river.

In Ashwaropeta, the impact of heavy rains was clear, with 16 cm of rain falling yesterday. This led to overflowing rivers and water bodies. The Pedavagu project reached its full capacity, necessitating the release of water from the gates to prevent overflow. Despite these efforts, 50 people were trapped in the river and border areas.

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao responded quickly to the situation. He coordinated with officials from both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments. Helicopters and NDRF personnel were deployed to rescue those stranded. A total of 26 people were evacuated by helicopters, while 25 others were rescued using air boats.

Fortunately, the rain subsided last night, giving some relief to affected residents. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and provide necessary assistance to villages at risk of flooding.
