Hyderabad: Holiday Declared Due to Heavy Rains
The authorities in Hyderabad have declared a holiday for Monday, following a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This decision was made by the Hyderabad Collector after a meeting with senior officials to assess the situation.
For nearly 24 hours, the city has experienced continuous drizzle, causing significant inconvenience for people commuting to work and school on Saturday. The IMD has forecasted moderate rainfall across all zones of Hyderabad and has advised residents to stay safe and remain indoors.
The weather conditions on Saturday indicated that a low-pressure system over the west-central and northwest regions, observed on August 30, had intensified into a depression by Saturday morning. This system is expected to move in a west or northwest direction in the coming hours.
As part of the yellow alert, the IMD has warned of possible heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Hyderabad. The department has also cautioned about localized waterlogging, potential traffic delays of 20-30 minutes, and the risk of electrocution due to unsecured power lines.
In response, the Municipal Corporation has been advised to issue necessary warnings and take action to clear waterlogged areas. The road and rail traffic departments will also be issuing advisories for traffic regulation. The response force has been alerted to be ready for any necessary actions.
Similar yellow alerts have been issued for the neighboring districts of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri.
