Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted continuous rain for the next three days in Hyderabad and nearby districts. Residents should prepare for more wet weather.
Thursday’s rain helped cool down the city after a hot spell, but it also revealed serious issues with the city’s drainage system. Roads were flooded, causing major problems for daily life. People faced power cuts, traffic jams, and waterlogged streets, forcing many to find shelter quickly.
Photos and videos on social media showed stranded passengers, cars underwater, and overflowing drains. Some homes in low-lying areas were flooded. The first thunderstorm hit Medchal, followed by heavy rain and strong winds throughout the city.
Several neighborhoods like Rajendranagar, Uppal, LB Nagar, Malakpet, and Begumpet saw severe flooding. In some places, water reached up to four feet, making it difficult for vehicles to pass. Many parked cars were completely submerged.
Other parts of the city, including Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Masab Tank, and Narayanguda, also saw heavy rainfall. Long traffic jams were reported in Chaderghat, Malakpet, and Moosarambagh, some lasting more than three hours. At Malakpet RuB, a bus broke down in standing water, making the traffic situation worse. Commuters were stuck for nearly four hours as traffic police tried to clear the roads.
The PVNR Expressway was also heavily flooded, stopping traffic along the entire route.
