Telangana High Court Issues Notice in Case Against MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy
The Telangana High Court, on Monday, issued notices to K. Giridhar, a former tahsildar of Choutuppal mandal in Yadadri Bhongir district, and the State government in a criminal petition filed by MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. Justice Kunuru Lakshman, who was presiding over the case, directed the parties involved to respond by February 11. The hearing was then adjourned.
The criminal petition was filed by Rajagopal Reddy, who sought a stay on proceedings in a case (CC.No. 455/2024) pending before the Special Judicial First-Class Magistrate for Excise Cases in Hyderabad. The judge also issued a notice to the complainant and the government to file their replies before the next hearing.
The case stems from an incident on July 26, 2021, during a government event organized by the then BRS government at SMR Convention Centre in Lakkaram, Choutuppal mandal. At the event, new fair price cards were distributed to eligible beneficiaries. Rajagopal Reddy and his supporters allegedly caused disruptions by creating chaos, snatching the microphone from a minister, and obstructing the program. This led to an FIR (No. 321/2021) being filed on July 27, accusing Reddy of hindering government officials from performing their duties.
Reddy filed a petition (CRLP. 1427 of 2025) seeking to quash the ongoing proceedings and the charge sheet related to the case (No. 455/24), which was filed on February 15, 2022. The court has scheduled further hearings for February 11, allowing time for the parties to submit their counter-affidavits.
