Telangana High Court Grants Interim Bail to Actor Allu Arjun

The Telangana High Court on Friday granted interim bail to actor Allu Arjun following his arrest by the Chikkadpally police in connection with the Sandhya Theatre incident. Justice Juvvadi Sridevi directed the superintendent of Charlapally prison to release Arjun upon furnishing a personal bond of ₹50,000.

The court provided the actor interim protection from arrest for a period of four weeks. Justice Sridevi further instructed Arjun to approach the IX Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Hyderabad, to apply for regular bail during this time.

In a related petition, the theatre management of Sandhya Cine Enterprise 70MM sought protection from arrest. The judge directed the police not to arrest those petitioners who have not yet been detained. For those already in custody, the court ordered their release upon submitting a personal bond of ₹25,000.

The incident pertains to an FIR filed by the Chikkadpally police on December 5, 2024. The complaint was lodged by Mogudampally Bhaskar after his wife tragically lost her life and his son was critically injured during the screening of “Pushpa 2” on December 4. The FIR named Allu Arjun and the theatre management as accused.

Senior counsel for Arjun, S Niranjan Reddy, argued that the sections under which the actor was booked, including Section 304 IPC (currently S. 1015 of BNS), do not apply to the case. He emphasized that there was no intent on Arjun’s part to cause harm or injury, and the death occurred without his knowledge.

Reddy further contended that the actor’s mere presence at the theatre cannot be considered a culpable act or omission leading to the death of Bhaskar’s wife. However, public prosecutor Palle Nageshwar Rao opposed the bail plea.

The High Court adjourned the case for four weeks, granting temporary relief to the actor and the theatre management.
