Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao has accused the Telangana government of neglecting the state’s residential schools. He claimed that the Chief Minister and Ministers are more focused on elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, leaving important issues in Telangana, like the condition of residential schools, unattended.
On Tuesday, Harish Rao visited NIMS Hospital to check on students from the Vankidi Gurukul School who had fallen ill due to food poisoning. Around 60 students from a Tribal Girls’ Residential School in Komaram Bheem District suffered from food poisoning, with two of them transferred to NIMS for emergency treatment.
“Mahalakshmi, an eighth grader, is recovering, but Jyothi, from ninth grade, is in critical condition. Another ninth grader, Shailaja, is on a ventilator, fighting for her life,” Harish Rao said.
Harish Rao expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions in Gurukul schools across Telangana. He pointed out that just last month, on October 31, about 60-70 children were hospitalized due to food poisoning at the same Vankidi Tribal School. He criticized the government, saying that despite the seriousness of the situation, neither Ministers nor officials have visited the affected students.
He described the situation as “heartbreaking” and said that some students are still suffering from severe symptoms. Rao insisted that it is unacceptable for such conditions to continue under the government’s watch.
Rao further stated that parents across Telangana send their children to government residential schools hoping for quality education and safety. However, he blamed the Congress party’s eleven-month rule for turning these schools into symbols of neglect and indifference.
