The construction of a new road on the Ameenpur stretch in Hyderabad has been on hold for several months, causing major problems for residents and commuters. The entire stretch is filled with potholes, which has made traveling difficult. Frustrated by the ongoing issues, locals are urging officials to complete the remaining work.
The roadwork started before the monsoon season this year, but only about 40% of the work was completed. The project then came to a standstill due to a lack of funds. As a result, the road is now covered in potholes, and the lanes have become extremely dusty, according to regular commuters.
RK Yadav, a resident of Ameenpur, explained that the construction was suddenly stopped. When locals asked the Ameenpur Municipality about the delay, officials blamed it on insufficient funds. Yadav added that the halting of the work has seriously disrupted traffic. He also pointed out that the absence of proper road dividers has made the situation even worse for people trying to commute.
Suresh Reddy, a daily commuter, shared his frustration, describing the experience of traveling on the road as “nightmarish.” He mentioned that plans to fix the road were made last year, but the work was only partially done before it was stopped. According to him, the authorities seem more focused on fixing internal roads, while the main road, which is in desperate need of repairs, is being ignored. Reddy also said that the unfinished road has become dangerous, with many people getting injured while using it.
