Haleem Gains Popularity in Karimnagar During Ramadan
Haleem, once a special dish mostly found in Hyderabad, has now become a favorite food during Ramadan in Karimnagar district. Many food stalls and restaurants have started setting up Haleem counters before the holy month begins.
Preparations for making Haleem start before Ramadan. This special dish is served from the first day of fasting. It is made with mutton, dry fruits, and wheat, which offer many health benefits. Dry fruits and mutton are rich in antioxidants, while wheat helps with digestion. The spices used in Haleem contain potassium, which can help lower blood pressure and prevent kidney problems. Nutritionists also suggest that it is a good food choice for people with diabetes.
Haleem is enjoyed across Karimnagar district and is known for its rich nutrients. During Ramadan, Muslims fast for 30 days, and after breaking their fast, Haleem is one of their favorite foods. Another dish, Haris, is also popular. These dishes provide quick energy and, due to their fiber content, help keep people full for longer.
Azeem, the manager of Arabian Kitchen in Karimnagar, shared that they have been preparing and selling Haleem for several years. He mentioned that over the past year and a half, their customers have shown great support. “Not just the Muslim community, but people from all backgrounds enjoy eating Haleem,” he said.
The ingredients used in Haleem are very nutritious. It provides quick energy, which is helpful for those who have been fasting. Wheat, different types of grams, and spices are ground into a fine mixture and used in its preparation.
Natural spices such as cloves, cardamom, dried shajeera, biryani leaves, ginger, garlic, coriander powder, onions, coriander, and mint are added. A mixture of chili, salt, turmeric, ghee, and oil is also included. These ingredients are combined with fresh chicken or mutton and cooked slowly over a charcoal stove. “The dish is cooked for hours until it reaches perfect consistency,” Azeem explained.
With its delicious taste and health benefits, Haleem continues to gain popularity in Karimnagar, making it a must-have dish during Ramadan.
