Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a state dinner in Washington where he praised the achievements of Indian-Americans. President Joe Biden and Modi both shared light moments and praised each other, with Modi toasting his wonderful hosts, including first lady Jill Biden, and the bond between the two countries.
Modi joked that he had forgotten how many speeches he made that day, and wished that he had the singing talent to sing during the event. He also recalled a dinner in 2014 where he was on a Navratri fast and could not eat anything, but Biden offered to feed him if needed.
Biden spoke about the historic ties between the US and India, and praised the contributions of Indian Americans. The dinner was attended by more than 400 guests, including big names in the tech world and billionaire industrialists such as Mukesh Ambani, Anand Mahindra, Google CEO Sunder Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Modi raised a toast for good health, prosperity, and the pursuit of happiness to liberty, equality, and fraternity, and to the ever-lasting bonds of friendship between India and the US.
