Environmental activist M Karunakar Reddy has started the ‘Rainwater Revolution’ campaign in Hyderabad to address water scarcity and promote sustainable practices. The campaign, which began in May, aims to tackle water scarcity by encouraging people to collect and store rainwater for essential purposes like sanitation and consumption.
Karunakar Reddy highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting in light of the water crises faced by cities like Bengaluru and Delhi. He emphasized that rainwater harvesting is a sustainable solution that can help recharge groundwater levels and reduce reliance on municipal water supply, especially during the summer.
The campaign has already received a positive response, with around 9,000 people in Telangana expressing interest and 3,000 agreeing to install rainwater harvesting filters. The goal is to construct 10,000 rainwater harvesting structures this year, saving and conserving 1.27 TMC of water.
