    Committee of Central Forest Experts Demanded Permissions from Telangana

    Hyderabad, June 27 (Namaste Telangana): The state government has once again requested the central government to grant environmental permissions for the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project, which has been pending for the past two decades. The meeting of the Expert Committee (EC) on Wednesday, constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, was chaired by Dr. K. Gopakumar through a video conference. Rajat Kumar, Special Chief Secretary of the Irrigation Department, Muralidhar of ENC (General), Sreedhar Rao of OSGP, and Hamid Akhan of Nalgonda CEE were present at the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Rajat Kumar said that the construction of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project is necessary to provide water to the villages affected by the Krishna river and fluoride contamination. He said that permissions have already been granted for 1,226 villages along with Hyderabad to fulfill the water needs of Nizampet. A system has been implemented to supply water to 12.30 lakh acres in six districts in the second phase. It was mentioned that permissions were issued on October 11, 2017, and public opinion collection was completed on August 10, 2021. Rajat Kumar also mentioned that the DPR will be submitted to the CWC in September and clearances have been obtained from the CEAA on March 17 this year and from the Central Soil and Materials Station (CSMS) on June 5. It was stated that all these measures are being taken to mitigate the losses incurred by the environment due to this project and to prevent the dire situation that the people are facing. Rajat Kumar demanded that permissions be granted within two decades, stating that it is urgent.
