Grand celebrations in Karimnagar marked by festive fervour

Karimnagar district in India celebrated Sankranti with great enthusiasm. People of all ages participated in the festivities, creating a lively atmosphere. The celebrations took place over three days, starting with Bhogi festival followed by Makara Sankranti and ending with Kanuma. These festivals mark the end of winter and the beginning of Uttarayana in the Hindu calendar.

Women started the celebrations by decorating their doorsteps with colorful rangolis, while girls helped their mothers. Children took part in a traditional head bath with Bhogi Pallu for blessings. Families enjoyed special dishes and snacks like Sakinalu, Garelu, Madugulu, and Arshalu. Devotees visited temples for special events such as Goda Devi or Andalamma Kalyanam to offer prayers.

The skies were filled with colorful kites as children and elders engaged in friendly battles. Rangoli competitions were hosted by various people’s organizations, including women’s associations. The government holidays allowed students, teachers, and employees to return to their hometowns, leading to busy bus stands and railway stations.

Prominent figures such as Peddapalli MLA Chinthakunta Vijayaramana Rao, Ramagundam MLA Makkan Singh Thakur, Vemulavada MLA and Government Whip Adi Srinivas, and Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao actively participated in the celebrations, adding to the festive spirit.
