Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Wednesday urged Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) to improve the lives of the underprivileged through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He spoke about this during a meeting with the heads of CPSUs in Telangana at Raj Bhavan.
The Governor emphasized that CPSUs are not just economic entities but key pillars that support the nation’s development. He said they help drive growth, create jobs, and contribute to making India more self-reliant.
Governor Varma echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” which means “Together with all, Development for all, Trust of all.” He encouraged the CPSUs to lead initiatives that promote inclusive growth and social development. He stressed the importance of working together to build a fairer India, asking the CPSUs to give back to the communities that have helped them succeed.
The Governor particularly highlighted the need for CSR efforts to focus on remote areas, especially those inhabited by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). He said that helping these communities could lead to significant positive changes and contribute to creating a more inclusive nation.
Governor Varma also pointed out the challenges faced by senior citizens, who often deal with loneliness, health problems, and limited social support. He suggested that CPSUs could help by providing healthcare services and building community centers to ensure that the elderly live with dignity and comfort.
Another important area he mentioned was the need to support orphans and children who require care and protection. He said these children often lack the opportunities available to others and need a nurturing environment to grow. Through education and healthcare initiatives, CPSUs can help secure a better future for these children, thus investing in the country’s future.
During the meeting, Raj Bhavan presented 11 proposals for CPSUs to consider funding as part of their CSR efforts. The Principal Secretary to the Governor, Burra Venkatesham, gave a detailed presentation on each of the proposals, urging the CPSUs to support those in need and work collaboratively to build a more just and equitable society.
