Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s approval of categorizing Scheduled Castes and announced that the government would implement these orders for already notified vacancies.
The Chief Minister made this statement in the Assembly during a discussion on the Young India Telangana Skills University Bill, despite protests from the BRS MLAs. He mentioned that the Madiga community had been fighting for this cause for 30 years. “We had earlier submitted an adjournment resolution in the legislature for the categorization of SCs. Sampath Kumar and I were expelled from the House back then. The previous government had promised to take opposition leaders to the Prime Minister regarding this issue but failed to do so, deceiving the Madiga community,” Revanth said.
Revanth explained that after becoming Chief Minister on December 3, 2023, he acted on the suggestions of Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka. The government sent legislators and the Advocate General to Delhi under the leadership of Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha. The Congress government presented a strong case in the Supreme Court for the categorization after consulting with the judges.
Revanth Reddy announced that the Supreme Court gave a favorable judgment for the categorization of the Madiga and Madiga sub-castes. “We are grateful to the Supreme Constitutional Court. The Telangana government will lead the way in implementing this categorization. We will also apply this categorization to the job notifications already issued. If necessary, we will bring an ordinance to ensure justice for the Madiga community. I urge the members of the House to fully cooperate in the classification of Madiga and Madiga sub-castes,” he said.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha stated that a 50-year-old dream had been realized on Thursday. “I led a delegation to the Supreme Court, and we were expecting a positive judgment. The government will take steps according to the judgment,” Rajanarsimha said.
Kadiyam Srihari mentioned that all political parties had supported the categorization issue. However, BRS MLAs interrupted his speech with slogans of ‘shame shame’. In response, Srihari said the BRS members seemed unaware of the judgment’s importance. “It seems BRS is not happy with the judgment,” he said, thanking the CM and the Centre for speeding up the process.
Harish Rao recalled that the KCR government had passed a resolution in November 2014 requesting the categorization of SCs.
