The Telangana government planned to give clothes to needy Muslims for Bakrid. They originally wanted to distribute 4.5 lakh gift packets during Ramzan but had to cancel due to the Model Code of Conduct being in place.
State officials asked the Election Commission of India for permission to give out clothes during Ramzan, but the request was denied because of the Model Code of Conduct.
The State Minority Welfare Department will organize the distribution of gift packets during Bakrid in May, after the Model Code of Conduct is lifted on June 4 after the Lok Sabha election results are announced.
