The Telangana Assembly has approved the establishment of the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) through the TIMS Act 2023. The Health Minister, T Harish Rao, explained that TIMS is important because patients often have to go to NIMS or private hospitals for specialized care after receiving treatment in district hospitals. To fix this, the government plans to create 10,000 specialized beds in NIMS, Warangal Health City, and TIMS hospitals.

TIMS will be an autonomous medical institute like AIIMS and PGI Chandigarh. This autonomy will help the institute make quick and efficient decisions for progress in education and medical services under the State government.

TIMS will have a 1,000-bed super specialty hospital with sections for heart, kidney, liver, brain, and lungs. It will also offer medical education in 16 specialties and 15 super specialties, as well as PG courses, nursing, and paramedical education in super specialties.
