The State government is considering conducting a special fitness drive for drivers of VIPs cars following the tragic death of Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Lasya Nandita in a road accident. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar mentioned during a media interaction at Gandhi Bhavan that the government will be organizing this drive for drivers who transport VIPs like ministers, MPs, MLAs, and bureaucrats. These drivers will need to undergo tests at one of the 33 centers located at district headquarters.
Minister Prabhakar emphasized the importance of VIPs carefully selecting experienced drivers when traveling long distances to prevent the loss of precious lives due to inexperienced drivers. He stated that letters will be sent to all VIPs regarding this matter.
The Minister dismissed claims that the RTC suffered losses due to the implementation of free travel for women under the Mahalakshmi scheme. He explained that new buses were added to the existing fleet to help the RTC manage the demand of 50 lakh passengers per day, ultimately leading to increased profits.
Regarding the progress of the BC census, Minister Prabhakar mentioned that the State government plans to follow Bihar’s example in completing the task. He stated that an all-party meeting will be held to gather opinions, followed by the formation of a commission to conduct the survey. Once the survey is completed, reservation policies will be implemented based on the findings.
