The Telangana State government is speeding up the process of starting a BC (Backward Classes) caste census. They plan to complete the entire process within a month once it begins. In the next few days, a crucial meeting of Ministers will be held to decide which department will be responsible for carrying out this important task.

A review meeting was recently held at the Secretariat to discuss the BC caste census. It was attended by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan, CM’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and officials from various departments. During the meeting, it was decided to follow the best practices from other states like Karnataka, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, which have already conducted similar surveys.

These states had assigned the task of conducting the survey to different departments. The Telangana government aims to conduct a detailed survey on BCs, as the data collected can also be used for other purposes, such as SC (Scheduled Castes) categorization. The upcoming meeting of Ministers will likely decide which department, out of the General Administration Department (GAD), Panchayat Raj, or Revenue Department, will handle the survey. Once a department is chosen, it will be required to submit the report within a month.
