    Kotnak Jangu, aged 90, passed away on Sunday at his home in Gunjala, Narnur Mandal, Adilabad district. He died due to health problems. Jangu was the creator of the Gondi script and also developed Gondi numerals and grammar.

    Jangu’s contributions were important for the education of Gond tribal children in Telangana. He created Gondi-Telugu readers and textbooks for students in grades 1 to 3, which helped improve their learning. His work on Gondi numerals is seen as a valuable gift to the Gond community.

    Jangu’s efforts to promote the Gondi script were supported by scholar Acharya Jayadheer Tirumala Rao. Many leaders from the Gond community have shared their condolences after hearing of his passing.
