Rescue Teams Set Up Across Hyderabad to Save Birds from Chinese Manja

A city-based voluntary group, the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GHSPCA), has stepped up efforts to rescue birds injured by Chinese manja during the festive season. On Thursday, the organization announced that their rescue teams will be stationed at 16 locations across Hyderabad to carry out rescue operations.

The locations where these teams will operate include Ameerpet, Bowenpally, Bahadurpura, Charminar, DV Colony, Goshamahal, Kachiguda, Malakpet, Chaitanyapuri, BHEL Kukatpally, Secunderabad, Shahlibanda, Rasoolpura, Tarnaka, Ramanthapur, and Marredpally. GHSPCA volunteers have urged residents of Hyderabad to contact their nearest rescue team if they spot injured birds, ensuring timely help.

In collaboration with the Forest Department, GHSPCA volunteers have already rescued 1,775 birds of various species. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, 400 of these birds did not survive due to the severity of their injuries during rescue and rehabilitation, according to a senior officer from the organization.

The GHSPCA’s initiative aims to minimize the harm caused by Chinese manja, a sharp and dangerous thread used in kite flying, which often results in severe injuries to birds. Residents are encouraged to reach out and support the rescue mission to save more lives this festive season.
