Hyderabad’s Rapid Development and Infrastructure Expansion

Hyderabad, known as the nation’s fastest-growing city, is witnessing extraordinary growth across various sectors. The State government is focusing on creating a business-friendly environment, which has resulted in significant improvements to the city’s infrastructure. Over the past year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched numerous major projects worth hundreds of crores to improve the city’s living conditions and enhance mobility for its residents.

To ensure the city’s overall development, the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme has been introduced. This initiative focuses on building essential facilities and upgrading infrastructure across Greater Hyderabad.

As part of improving transportation and promoting a signal-free traffic system, the GHMC has been working on the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). This includes constructing flyovers, Railway Over Bridges (ROBs), underpasses, and other key infrastructure projects. These developments are not limited to the New City; several significant projects are also being implemented in the Old City.

Under the SRDP, the government took up 42 projects, of which 36 have been completed, and the rest are in progress. Ongoing projects include flyovers at Shilpa Layout, Gachibowli Junction, Nalgonda X Roads–Owaisi Junction, and Uppal Junction, as well as ROBs at Falaknuma and Shastripuram. Notably, the 4.4 km flyover between Aramghar and Zoo Park has been constructed. Earlier this year, the GHMC also opened a second-level flyover at Bairamalguda Junction, spanning 1.8 km and built at a cost of Rs 148.05 crore, to facilitate signal-free traffic and reduce travel time.

Hyderabad continues to evolve as a modern city, with its government focusing on infrastructure development to meet the needs of its growing population.
