The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management team recently released a report revealing that approximately 31,000 fake certificates were distributed by Mee Seva centres throughout the city. The report indicates that out of these 31,000 fake certificates, 27,000 were birth and death certificates. The cause of this issue could be attributed to technical problems and bribery. However, in certain cases, certificates were issued without the revenue division officer’s (RDO) involvement. It is important to note that the RDO’s participation is a mandatory requirement for obtaining birth and death certificates through the ‘non-availability’ process. This report highlights the need for strict measures to be implemented to prevent the distribution of fake certificates and ensure the authenticity of important documents.
