Hyderabad is facing an increase in mosquitoes, which can spread diseases. To tackle this problem, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is using new technology to help control the mosquito population.
GHMC has introduced a new digital feature called ‘fogging on request’ in the ‘My GHMC’ app. This feature allows citizens to learn more about mosquito control and request fogging in their areas.
Currently, this initiative is being tested as a pilot project in the Jubilee Hills circle. If successful, it will be expanded to the entire GHMC region. Citizens are encouraged to use this service to help reduce mosquito problems.
According to GHMC, any resident facing mosquito issues can log in to the ‘My GHMC’ app and request fogging. The request will be received by an assistant entomologist, who will assign it to a fogging worker in the area. Once the fogging is completed, a photo with the location details will be uploaded as proof.
A senior entomologist explained that this system helps ensure all areas receive proper fogging while avoiding unnecessary repetition in certain locations. The number of fogging slots will depend on the staff available in each area. To prevent multiple requests from the same location, once fogging is done, that area will be restricted from making another request for one week.
