With the arrival of summer, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) has started programs to educate people on how to respond and escape during emergencies. They are conducting awareness campaigns and emergency evacuation drills.

To prepare for fire-related incidents, the EV&DM is implementing an action plan that includes regular awareness and evacuation drills in places like schools, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, hotels, and banquet halls where large crowds gather. Teams led by the Station Fire Officer (SFO) are demonstrating and practicing fire escape procedures, building evacuation protocols, fire-fighting equipment operation, first aid, CPR, and educating citizens on what to do in emergencies.

Recently, the DRF teams of EV&DM conducted emergency evacuation drills at various locations like Premier Hospital, Kadarbagh in Langar Houz, Fashion factory in Saroornagar, Bajaj Electronics in Chandrayangutta, Fashion factory in KPHB, and Marriott Hotel in Lower Tank Bund. They have also conducted over 82 awareness programs in public places, shopping malls/showrooms, schools/colleges, and hostels/apartments in the last two weeks.

EV&DM has trained ULB staff on disaster rescue operations and fire services personnel on various rescue techniques. Officials from GHMC, Fire department, TSSPDCL, and HMWS&SB will coordinate during fire incidents. Building owners and establishment managers can request evacuation drills by calling helpline numbers. Citizens can report unauthorized storage of hazardous materials in residential buildings anonymously. Helpline: 040-29555500, Mobile No. 9000113667.
