To prevent the illegal transportation and dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in Hyderabad, the directorate of Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management has launched a special drive. Their goal is to protect government and private lands, as well as water bodies, nalas, and parks from this unauthorized dumping. Teams have been formed to inspect areas where dumping occurs at night, and on Tuesday night they caught 20 vehicles involved in illegal C&D waste transportation. A penalty of Rs 25,000 was imposed for the first offense.

The director of EVDM, N Prakash Reddy, stated that transporting C&D waste without authorization will result in a penalty of Rs 25,000 for the first offense, Rs 50,000 for the second offense, and Rs 1 lakh for the third offense. They have noticed that many vehicles are transporting boulders from construction sites without proper safety measures, such as not closing or locking doors, overloading beyond capacity, and inadequate covering at night. EV&DM will also penalize these vehicles.

Citizens can report any complaints related to unauthorized transportation and dumping of C&D waste on Twitter. Strict action will be taken based on these complaints. Private operators have been instructed to cease unauthorized transportation and dumping of C&D waste within GHMC limits. Waste generators will also face a penalty of Rs 50,000 if they allow private transporters to lift C&D waste from their sites. They are encouraged to use authorized agencies by calling the toll-free numbers provided.

EV&DM has specified that vehicles with a capacity of 2-6 tonnes are being used to collect smaller quantities of C&D waste from building renovations or minor repairs. For larger quantities generated from building demolitions or construction projects, vehicles with a capacity of 16-25 tonnes are deployed.
