    Hyderabad Mayor Approves ₹8,440 Crore Budget for 2025-26

    Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has called for effective collaboration between officials and public representatives to ensure the city’s comprehensive development. On Thursday, she approved a budget of ₹8,440 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This marks an increase compared to the revised budget of ₹8,118 crore for 2024-25.

    The General Body Meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was chaired by the Mayor. The session began with a two-minute silence to honor the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.

    At the start of the meeting, Mayor Vijayalakshmi expressed her gratitude to the state government for its support. She emphasized the need for coordination between public representatives and officials to ensure the success of infrastructure and welfare projects. “It is our collective duty to provide the essential infrastructure that our city residents need,” she stated.

    During the meeting, corporators highlighted several key areas requiring attention. These included improving sanitation management, installing street lights, and enhancing the city’s suburbs. They also suggested focusing on increasing revenue for GHMC by addressing tax evasion by corporate schools. A dedicated initiative to recover these unpaid taxes was proposed.

    The corporators further stressed the importance of developing sports facilities and improving amenities in local parks. They urged officials to ensure effective implementation of these projects.

    GHMC Commissioner K Ilambarthi outlined plans to enhance facilities in the city’s parks and sports grounds. He assured that necessary funds have been allocated for these improvements. Addressing issues with street lighting, he noted that contractors have been engaged to expedite the work and promised swift resolution.

    MP and ex-officio member Eatala Rajender emphasized the importance of building public trust in the governing council. He urged collaborative efforts to address community challenges and called for targeted infrastructure development in specific areas. Rajender also stressed the need to clean water sources across the city to ensure they remain fresh and odor-free.

    Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy called for a united approach to improve community services and drive the city’s growth. She highlighted the need to expand the workforce in sanitation management to maintain a cleaner environment.

    The meeting saw participation from Zonal Commissioners Anurag Jayanthi, Hemant Keshav Patil, Apurva Chauhan, Upender Reddy, Ravi Kiran, as well as additional commissioners, senior officers, corporators, and other officials. They provided detailed responses to various queries raised by the members during the session.
